I ask that my clients meet certain criteria. I hold myself to certain values and ethical standards as well. I’ve discovered this means I can no longer provide fractional CxO work.
Brian’s ETHICS and Why I don’t do Consulting and Fractional CxO work anymore. I used to help more directly hands-on and had a team of consultants who could help with HR and Medical Billing and Financial Cash Flow Projects and Dashboards and Investigations and Mediations and fractional COO/CFO/CHRO/CMO and all sorts of similar work. I cut back to doing it only for CxO group members and friends, and then since late 2023 have stopped it entirely. There are good folks out there who do - if you do this work with the same spirit let me know so I can add you to my rolodex - but it conflicts too much with my ability to help with values and discernment (decision making). When you look at the Chess Board and have trouble knowing what to move where, I’m the guy you can ask and get unbiased advice. I stand next to the board and look at it with you. If we look at the board and see you’re missing a key piece, and I step in to help with that, I’ve found we lose my ability to offer objective advice on the next move. Let’s say I step on the board to be your fractional CFO and then say you should dedicate more money to hiring an accountant or buying new financial software, and it will take me 20 hours to set it up… how can you be sure I’m not just making work for myself? My lack of investment and objectivity has to be preserved, for both our best interests.
